For real local cuisine, the best place is northwest to the mountainous coastline of Zakynthos.
About 30 km away from Zante town we find the Cross, a famous temple of local gastronomy offering incredible home cooking and a variety of local wines. It is exactly above the sea of the west coast, just 800 meters after the sleepy hamlet of Kampi. The location and the views are steep cliffs, deep blue waters and perhaps the most beautiful sunset on the island.
At “Cross” you can sample some authentic Zakynthian recipes, like rabbit with onions in tomato sauce and chicken baked in the oven as well as home made bread, the local oil cheese “ntopio”, fresh salads with vegetables from the village gardens, a variety of grilled meets and of course the classic moussaka.
