The Public Library is located downtown, and more specifically in Solomos Square. The story of the library began in 1628, when after the great earthquake of 1953 destroyed everything (old documents and books) and closed. However, some years later, some islanders donated their collections of old books, so the Public Library re-formed again.
Now inside you will find rare books, old framed photos of the island before the disaster of 1953, copies of old newspapers and memoirs from WWII
